We understand that while discrimination and victimisation of one by the other will always happen, it is not helpful in any road awareness discussion. Be HGV Aware has put together a presentation that is balanced in its approach; is non-discriminatory and non-victimising. The presentation draws on its members experience to deliver a thought-provoking, eye-opening set of criteria that will increase any audiences’ road acumen. We are not here to scare you off the road. We are not here to tell you what to do. Using slide, video and audience exercises we will address the HGV driver’s visual limitations and the variables that affect HGV operations. The criteria discussed will include: Mirrors – their importance and what a HGV driver sees Blind Spots – numerous variables that cause visibility limitations Vehicle Manoeuvring and Positioning – how a HGV moves, and how it affects cyclists Your Visibility – what cyclists can do to increase their visibility in relation to HGVs.
